Join us in Iceland in November of 2024 for a fascinating photographic journey along the south coast of Iceland as we seek beautiful landscapes and intriguing ice forms and winter waterfall images by day – and hunt the Northern Lights at night!

Glaciers appear more blue in the winter as there is not so much daytime melting to make the soft white ice that hides that blue look!

Ice caves, carved by waters flowing through glaciers, become stable enough for us to explore! We have secured a cave outing (guided, with crampons) with enough time to bring tripods and cameras!

Glaciers continue to calve into fresh-water lagoons. Some of that ice makes its way to the sea, only to be stranded on gorgeous black-sand beaches. A photographers' playground.

Iceland can be an outstanding place to photograph the Aurora as well. One of the great advantages there is a variety of foregrounds, including mountains, streams, lagoons, and even glaciers.

And, Iceland's famous waterfalls don't take the winter off. Some are ice enshrouded. Others totally freeze solid. And still others gush just like usual. There is creative fun to be had - even on moonlit nights!

We’ll start with winter views of Iceland’s Stroker (active geyser) and the famous Gulfoss Waterfall.

Then we’ll work our way along the south coast of Iceland, staying 3 nights in the Vik area, where we’ll photograph mountains, coastlines, waterfalls, basalt columns, black sand beaches and other nature shots by day – and seek the Aurora at night.

We’ll move to a new base camp right next to the famous glacial lagoon enabling us photographic opportunities of the glacial lagoon, icebergs on the black sand beach, and ice blue glaciers.

Finally, we’ll head back to Reykjavik for a night before the journey home.

We have choreographed this adventure to put us in great positions for all the above activities - at the right time of the year - and the right phases of the moon.

Please note that the Aurora does not show up every night – and that Iceland does experience cloudy conditions that could prevent us from seeing the Aurora often (or possibly at all). We worked with our team in Iceland to choose the region of Iceland, the time of year, and the phase of the moon to give us the best possible odds of photographing the Aurora!

Two of the images on this page were provided by our Iceland Guide Siggi!

So many birds! Such good photography opportunities. So little physical effort required. Forty percent of the planet's hummingbirds are found in Ecuador. Thirty-seven percent of the tanagers (which don't show up in the Old World at all). Conservation has teamed up with landowners to protect natural cloudforest habitats - and the result is birds sitting on branches predictably in a way you can photograph them. Did we mention Cock-of-the-rock? Or mountain tourcan? Small group so secure your space before it is gone!
