Yellowstone in Winter is a photographers' paradise and we will once again offer our Yellowstone Winter Photography Safari, an adventure designed to maximize nature photography opportunities - with a focus on wildlife, winter, and the thermal features that make Yellowstone famous.

Crystalline snow sparkles in the winter sun as a foreground to magificent waterfalls, steamy geysers, and stately wildlife. Hoar and rime frost outline trees and shrubs near many of the hot pools.

We hold a Commercial Use Authorization from Yellowstone National Park
to guide photography tours.

Bison wander the valleys and geyser basins. And there are fewer people in the park. We love the photographic opportunities and the sense of adventure while traveling in snow coaches.

Join a small group of avid photographers and nature buffs as we travel over the snow on Yellowstone's roads in snow coaches to see wildlife such as elk, bison, eagles, and coyotes.

Almost every winter session in Yellowstone we find wolves, tracks, carcasses of wolf kills or other signs of these magnificent creatures!

We'll vist geyser basins covered with snow and ice to watch eruptions and marvel at beautiful hot springs. We'll compose landscapes and capture intricate macro images in this varied environment.

We'll peer into canyons at Yellowstone's magnificent waterfalls,
cascading among snow and ice.

Winter can create varied light conditions - from bright direct sun to heavy overcast with falling snow. We've endured bitter cold and heavy snow. But the reward has always been some breathtaking moments when you can't possibly create images as fast as your eyes find them.

This is not an "if it's Tuesday it must be Old Faithful" kind of safari.

Each day as we head out on safari, we'll start with a blank slate. We'll call on our years of experience in Yellowstone, current weather conditions, recent wildlife sightings, and our talented guide to "make the call" on where to go and what to explore.

We will, over our five days of snow coach travel, find a balance of wildlife, scenery, thermal features, and macro opportunities. We'll work hard to get to great places in great light - check out the gallery above to verify that we have consistently delivered that over the past years. We have plenty of room for you and your gear in the coach!

  • We follow a flexible schedule - seizing opportunities presented by weather and willdlife action.
  • We balance our photography time among wildlife, waterfalls, thermal features, winter scenery/landscapes, and close-up photography.
  • Our destinations include Old Faithful and Upper Geyser Basin, Biscuit Basin, Black Sand Basin, Midway Geyser Basin, Lower Geyser Basin, Norris Geyser Basin, Canyon, Upper and Lower Yellowstone Falls, Gibbon Falls, Firehole Falls and the Madison River Canyon.
  • We are first in the park in the morning and wildlife and dramatic scenery start right away.
