As nature photographers ourselves, and as tourism planners, we search the planet for places and times when weather, natural events, and light all come together to create great photographic opportunities. Then we work to curate logistics into itineraries that enable photographers to step into those situations and create compelling images. We test those, ourselves, before leading small groups of photographers into special situations – and refine those itineraries after each experience to reflect both a changing natural world and developments in the tourism infrastructure that is so important to the experiences.

There is an art to leading a small group through nature, preparing them technically, building a sense of understanding about the environment they are in and the factors that are shaping natural events, and helping them see the light and to build compositions.
In the field, in the moment, our participants come first. We’ll be carrying camera ourselves, determining and sharing exposures when the lighting is tricky. Explaining how to manage technical gear to accomplish the image in your head. Pointing out compositions, but never taking away the sense of discovery that is so important to keeping a sense of wonder and awe – and shaping the image that reflects both your own experience and the feeling you want to convey to someone seeing your images. We’ll also capture a few images alongside you to share with others.

We cultivate a group attitude in which we and participants are all pointing out special views or photographic opportunities to each other. We create a situation where each person “is building the image designed in her/his mind” but also “sharing awesome angles or events unfolding”. We coach our guides to deepen our sense of knowledge, to get us into the right positions for great light, but to also, when the moment is unfolding, to let us all do our magic.
When a small group of photographers, and some of their friends and loved ones, have shared dramatic moments in nature, they have a common memory and bond in a special way. Those who travel with us often return home, not only with new knowledge and great images, but new lifelong friendships. They often conspire to meet again on another adventure. Those same people are amazingly welcoming to those who are joining us for the first time.

Join us in 2026 for an extravaganza of bird photography. All sizes. More colors than you can imagine. And great conditions for photography. We're talking many species of hummingbirds. More tanagers than you imagined existed. Toucans and toucanets. Cock of the Rock. Woodpeckers. Trogans. Quetzals. Antpittas. Guans. Some birds with really different features like the swordbill and racquettail hummingbirds. Great setups - many where you can establish a tripod position and the birds will come to you. There will be some early mornings but most of the outings are not physically demanding. Small group, by design.

Join us in 2026 as we make an epic journey over a 14,000 foot pass on Ecuador's Continental Divide then down to the very floor of the Amazon Basin. We'll explore a number of ecosystems, finding birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, insects and more to photograph and to learn from. By entering the Amazon from above, we'll "follow the water" as it begins its journey in the high mountains, steep slopes, and deep canyons of the areas east of the divide. By the time we've completed this journey you will have a new understanding of the Amazon Basin, its scope, its fragility, and it's importance to the planet. Your photographs will include sweeping panoramas, gorges, waterfalls, river scenes, jungle scenes, wild birds and other animals, and the macro world. You'll have a deeper understand of the Amazon - and how the planet fits together. And you'll have the images to share that knowledge and inspire others.

Our new Kenya West Photography Safari explores from Samburu on the north down to the Masai Mara in the south. We'll find 3 kinds of giraffes, two kinds of zebras, rhinos (black and white), gerenuks, big cats, hyenas and jackals, outstanding scenery and a wealth of birds - big and little. We'll see a number of ecosystems, brush up agains several cultures, get a great introduction to the Rift Valley, and so much more. The empty cities and quiet temples of the ancient Maya tell us stories of a civilization that flourished and then crashed before Europeans became a force in the New World. Once that civilization collapsed, nature took over, rebuilding forests and wetlands and filling the region with a wealth of flora and fauna. We'll explore, with cameras and a knowledgable Mayan guide, both the remnants of this great civiliazation and the beauty of the natural world that reclaimed this region. Everything happens at once in Northern Tanzania in late February! It's a lull between the short rains and the long rains. The Great Migration has moved south toward the lush grasses of the Ndutu Region, where they give birth to a million baby wildebeest. Predators gather for the easy prey. This is the season for courtship for small colorful birds. And the new greening of grasses make all the ungulates and elephants happy, energetic, and healthy. It's a great time to make images! We have a great collection of lodgings secured. Please join us.
