Yellowstone Winter 2018

Post 2 – Scenery What can be more enchanting than sparkling snow and the cool colors of winter. Snow also simplifies an otherwise busy landscape and adds a new creative element.

Yellowstone and Grand Teton Fall Photography Safari

Part 3, Yellowstone is famous for Old Faithful, but to a photographer’s eye, there is so much more…

Almost everyone visiting Old Faithfull for this eruption viewed it straight on, flat light.  Bob brought the group around to the side to capture exciting definition of highlights and shadows.  Also important is capturing the eruption early on before the detail is obstructed by more steam.  In addition to named features, the geyser basins are home to great artistic abstracts.  We like to encourage our groups to look at what is at their feet and move around pools for the best compositions.

A few of us waited to get a beam of sunshine on the pool to highlight the gorgeous colors against the stormy background.  It only lasted a few seconds before the sun hid behind another cloud.
